I like the melody of punk which can make you fresh when you listen to punk music. Punk music originated in the mid-1970s. It is from Britain, and it affects a lot in Britain. In 1970s, there was an economic crisis breaking out in Britain. The automobile industry almost went bankrupt; the spinning, coal and steel industries were in trap; the price of food and oil rose; a number of workers were unemployed. The young generation felt completely at sea and had no idea about that. At that time, the musical stars had a very important influence on the young people who doubted the society tremendously. It is the punk music that shows the disappointment and desperateness about the society from the young people. They criticized all the aspects of the society, involving shouting loudly, an odd hair style and dressing, and a frantic performance on the stage.

In Britain, punk music is considered as a movement against the government which was shiftless. The most important punk band in Britain is “sex pistols”. The best song I like from it is “God save the queen” which is imitated the British national anthem. Although this songs was banned everywhere at that time, it was still so popular that it got the No.2 rank in the ranking list of Britain music. In Britain, punk is a music which was used to against the government, while in America; it is supposed to be a new language that young people spoke to their parents. The important punk bands and singers are Ramones, Patti Smith, Nirvana, Green Day, and the Offspring and so on.

Nirvana is legendary and it is my favorite band. They created a lot of songs which make me crazy. “Never mind” was come out 20 years ago. However, it is still one of my favorite albums right now. “Smell like teen spirit” which is my favorite song brings Nirvana high reputation. When I heard this song at the first time, I just thought it was so aloud. But later I could feel his loneliness, and then I could not help keeping listening.

The other famous album “MTV Unplugged in New York” is also my favorite. In that concert, he played the songs by wooden guitar and sang the songs in the soft voice which showed the other side of him. That is a classical unplugged concert which changed many people’s prejudice to the rock music. Kurt Cobain sings “Where did you sleep last night?” in a very hoarse voice. It is no doubt that Kurt Cobain is a genius. In 1994, Kurt Cobain ended his life in his life by using a hunting gun. I think nobody know why he was suicide as why he sighed at the end of “where did you sleep last night?” A lot of people consider him as a “God of Rock”, so maybe God should not be in the reality.

Anyway, Kurt Cobain acted to live up to his music ideals, but what he left to the fans is heartbreak and recall. Although his business was better and better, he still became more extreme and cynical. He was so desperate that nobody could change his mind, including the crazy fans and his wife and daughter. So he chose a bullet to end his life. In his autobiography, he said that I didn’t have the passion any more, so remember, it’s better to burn out than to fade away. Because of this sentence, he became the rock hero in a lot of people’s heart. However, punk is still in development. There will be more and more people involving this kind of music.
